Espinoso de Compludo

Located in the heart of the mystical Tebaida Berciana, Espinoso de Compludo is a tourist attraction that captivates with its authenticity and deep roots in history and nature. This small mountain village, part of the municipality of Ponferrada, has been preserved almost intact, offering visitors a full immersion in the traditional architecture of El Bierzo.

The main attraction of the village is its harmonious urban ensemble, characterized by narrow cobbled streets flanked by houses built with local stone and covered with black slate. This landscape has been granted a Special Protection Plan, ensuring the preservation of its rustic charm.

The natural environment is equally prominent. Situated in a deep valley and surrounded by an abundant forest of chestnuts, oaks, and hollies, Espinoso is the starting point for numerous hiking routes. The proximity to the Meruelo River and the Herrería de Compludo (an ancient medieval forge still powered by water) adds a cultural and historic industrial attraction to the walk. Visitors can follow trails that connect with other emblematic villages of the Tebaida, such as Peñalba de Santiago or San Cristóbal de Valdueza, enjoying landscapes of virgin beauty and crystal-clear streams.

The Parish Church of San Miguel, with Romanesque remains and a 16th-century reconstruction, is another point of interest for heritage lovers.

• Village Access: Open all year.
• Taberna Espinoso de Compludo: Wednesday to Sunday: 10:00 – 23:30 / Monday and Tuesday: closed
• Herrería de Compludo: Open March to October, Wednesday to Sunday, morning and afternoon.
• Ponferrada Tourist Office: Tuesday to Sunday: approximately 10:00 – 17:00
• Church of San Miguel: Open on festivals and religious events.

🛏️ Capacity: Access to the village is free. Herrería de Compludo has limited capacity for guided visits.
