Templum Libri

Templum Libri, located within the majestic Castle of the Templars in Ponferrada, is a unique exhibition that attracts lovers of history, culture, and literature. This space houses an exclusive selection of facsimile books, manuscripts, codices, and graphic works, considered true jewels of knowledge and printed art. The collection was donated by the bibliophile bercian Antonio Ovalle García, whose passion for preserving bibliographic heritage has allowed the public to admire these exceptional pieces.

The exhibition is divided into two main rooms that allow visitors to take a fascinating journey through the history of the book and knowledge. The first room focuses on religious texts, including ancient bibles, beatus books, psalters, and books of hours, notable for their elaborate illustrations and artistic calligraphy. These pieces reflect the deep spiritual and artistic legacy of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The second room focuses on science and humanities, with illuminated books, illustrated prints, and works by authors covering scientific, literary, and artistic topics. This combination makes Templum Libri a perfect place for those seeking to connect with knowledge across time, appreciating the evolution of written culture and editorial art.

In addition to the richness of its contents, the location of Templum Libri in the Castle of the Templars adds special value. The castle is one of the most visited monuments in Ponferrada and a key part of the region’s historical heritage. Visitors can combine exploring the medieval fortress with the cultural experience offered by this bibliographic exhibition.

Templum Libri is, without a doubt, a must-see for tourists interested in history, art, and culture, offering an educational and visually impressive experience in a unique setting that invites immersion in centuries of knowledge and beauty.
